I’m assuming you can get yourself to Tamworth Station, so I won’t patronise you by linking to National Rail Enquiries, despite my pleasure in the ease of doing such things.

I would usually take the route below involving a short walk along by the river; but don’t worry – it’s tarmacked so you won’t get your posh wedding shoes dirty. The only time I wouldn’t go that way would be when the river’s in flood (and I mean a proper flood, not just a fat, fast river), as the paths might be a foot or so underwater! In that case take a taxi (numbers are given on the Directions page).

Come out of the station and turn left along the main road (Saxon Drive), which will take you past Aldi and the Ford garage. When you reach a roundabout turn left and cross at the pedestrian crossing. Take the sloping foot/cycle path down to the river level. At the bottom of the slope turn right and follow the path by the river until you can see (and get to) the Castle and the Castle Hotel beyond it (for the hotel follow the path around the bottom of the motte to the road).
